The Durban Symphonic Choir was formed in 1966. It has become a self-funding amateur choir, well-known for presentations of classical choral works including Orff’s Carmina Burana, Karl Jenkins’s Requiem (SA première), Rutter’s Mass of the Children, and Bach’s St John Passion as well as lighter music performances. The DSC is currently under the dedicated direction of Dr Ros Conrad. For its inaugural performance at the Hilton Arts Festival, the DSC will be presenting the Dvořák Mass in D, accompanied by acclaimed organist Dr Chris Cockburn and conducted by the renowned Naum Rousine. Czech composer Antonín Leopold Dvořák (1841–1904) wrote the Mass in D in 1886. It is pure Dvorak, reflecting the composer’s humble faith, his natural humility in the face of a higher Order, and his true joy of life. The piece was described in 1904 as “a work of remarkable power and effect”. www.durbansymphonicchoir.co.za | www.facebook.com/DbnChoir
