From telling improvised stories beneath a baobab on the banks of the Limpopo as a youngster, to performing in his own play at the Old Vic in London many years later, Paul Slabolepszy has travelled a remarkable journey in the theatre both locally and internationally. With over thirty plays, as well as several television and film screenplays to his credit, ‘The Slab’ has carved a name for himself as one of SA’s foremost playwrights and actors. Equally at home dealing with powerful, thought-provoking themes in plays like Saturday Night at the Palace, Pale Natives, The Return of Elvis du Pisanie and Suddenly the Storm, Slabolepszy’s comedies continue to delight and draw audiences. Under the Oaks and the 95’ Rugby
World Cup Classic Heel Against the Head, starring the late, great Bill Flynn, for example, have achieved legendary status.
In A Slice of Slab, the playwright shares his fascinating journey in life and theatre along with fellow UCT alumnus, Bobby Heaney, a friend and colleague of over thirty years and the director of many of his most successful plays
