BELINDA DOLPHIN is a musician who has performed many times at this festival. Her style and taste of music is eclectic and she has a vast repertoire which covers the hits of all eras. She will be singing hits of the likes of The Beatles, Elvis, Shania Twain, Bruno Mars and Adele. She will be performing in the SAB Marquee Sunday at 11o’clock.
If you like the music of the‘60’s and 70’s the Bifocals are a 6-piece local band that Is bound to tickle your fancy! The band consists of amixed bag of middle-aged lawyers, teachers and engineers, put together and led by Ant Jenkins, and concentrate on the harmonies and tight renditions of this timeless era. They all require bifocal specs to read their music and interact with their audiences, and hence the name of the band.
Fresh from their success as the feature act at this year’s Splashy Fen Music Festival, local heroes, the Hairy Legged Lentil Eaters, return to one of their favourite gigs – the Hilton Arts Festival marquee. Always willing to try something new, including satirical observations of South African life, the Hairies have won over audiences with the obvious joy they display towards their music, and their combination of harmony and humour. Combining influences from folk, country and rock music, the Hairies promise an evening of great entertainment.
8 piece band Platform Jazz will be back to entertain in the SAB festival marquee on Sunday 18th September from 1 pm. Their line up includes Cathy Peacock on the trumpet, Ian Holloway on the clarinet, Duncan Wooldrige on the trombone, local Hiltonian Jeff Judge on the sax, Andreas Kappen on the double bass, Bruce Baker on the drums, award winning pianist Melvin Peters on the keyboard and velvet voiced Sam Marais will be singing . Come and catch some excellent jazz ranging from Satchmo and Dixie hits, full on swing including "In the Mood" and laid back Latin favourites such as "Sway" and "GIrl from Ipenema". Sam will also sing the evergreen "Mr Bojangles", "Summertime" and "Route 66". It's an excellent way to mellow out on a Sunday afternoon!
St. Nicholas Steel Drum Band, led by Mr. Bryan Clarke, are five time National Steel Drum Champions, and are becoming increasingly well-known throughout Pietermaritzburg and its surrounds, playing at a number of events including Art in the Park, The Nedbank Stage on Comrades Day, weddings and private functions. The 15 piece band is known for its energy and enthusiasm during performances, playing well known favourites such as Pretty Woman, Waka-Waka and Rock around the Clock.
The Wykeham Collegiate Wind Ensemble is well known in Pietermaritzburg for the high standard of its performances, and has recently made two CD recordings. The 55 girls on flutes, clarinets and saxophones under the direction of Janine Theron can be relied upon to provide a fun and relaxing listening experience.
