Home Jongosi

The Jongosi programme at the festival  was introduced in 2010 and was an overwhelming success. It is aimed at the youth to stimulate young minds and develop in them a love and appreciation of the arts.  Iconic South African  singer and white Zulu, Johnny Clegg, coined the word “JONGOSI”,  and has allowed us to use it  as the umbrella term for this unique day. It comes from the Afrikaans, meaning “jong os” but has been absorbed, along with Clegg, into Zulu culture. It is a celebration of all that is young, new and vibrant.  Our Jongosi embodies the same values,  and we invite you to bring a group from your school.

Expose your pupils to an experience that will educate, entertain and allow them to expand their view of the world. JONGOSI  takes place on 16 September. The day will be structured in such a way that  pupils will be fully occupied. Not only will they watch performances, they will have the opportunity to take part in workshops and will have time to chill in the SAB Festival Marquee where there will be age appropriate music, food on sale and a “bar” where there will be an embargo on all alcohol until 1600, when the marquee will be emptied of under aged children.
