Roy Horovitz

Well-known Israeli actor and director, Roy Horovitz, (Volunteer Man, My First Sony and The Time Keepers), reads "When the Omelette touches the Salad" - an award-winning drama, which brings to life two stories, about two lonely anti-heroes; and, "Jonathan" - an old Jewish lady, a little baby crying out loud, a group of social workers... a happy ending???

Horovitz was born in Israel in1970 and is a graduate of the Nisan Nativ Acting Studio, and of the Drama Department in Tel-Aviv University, from where he holds an MA. In 1994-1998, he was awarded scholarships from the America-Israel Culture Fund in recognition of his achievements and has also been awarded Best Actor at the International Children and Youth Festival, Haifa.

The Djembe is an incredibly versatile musical instrument, perfectly suited to a variety of applications.  Somewhere inside everyone there is rhythm and it is this rhythm that we persuade to join us in an interactive session!!  The Djembe has the ability to not only raise energy levels but also focus attention and concentration as well as to encourage teamwork within the group – all whilst having a whole lot of fun!  Every participant is handed a Djembe and becomes interactively involved in playing this instrument and a variety of other percussive instruments.  By the end of the session, the participants are playing, whilst the teachers simply listen!

There is a minimum age requirement of 10 years old.  Under 10’s are welcome to watch & over 10’s are welcome to join in!

Acclaimed guitarist James Grace presents an in-depth insight into the history and development of the classical guitar, from its modest beginnings as a four string instrument, to the modern day concert instrument we are all familiar with today. James will discuss and the many guitar techniques that have evolved through the ages, and demonstrate how these are used in the repertoire – particularly those from the Spanish folk tradition of Flamenco. This presentation will appeal to music lovers in general, and specifically to those who often, after having seen James perform, ask ... “How does he do that?!”

An introduction to mechanisms of vocal apparatus and production, how important the power of speech and communication skills are and how to look after and protect your voice.

The workshop includes vocal and physical exercises, games, improvisation, creating a text and performing. It encourages interaction, working in pairs and in groups and analyses the different dynamics within these. The workshop, while primarily dealing with verbal communication also deals with non-verbal signals, and incorporates cultural variation and variables that can occur in communication.

The 1 hour workshop will draw on what artists need to know about how festival directors operate and how to propose work to a festival director. The workshop will offer hints on how to go beyond submitting a written proposal and waiting for the inevitable letter that says either "Rejected" or "Accepted". Workshop participants will reflect and review examples of how artists & companies have been able to move through the National Arts Festival's Fringe, Arena and Main programmes.
